Von Vang Vieng führt mich mein Weg erneut weiter nordwärts. Nach 9h bergauf und -ab über holperige Serpentinen erreiche ich im Schlafbus die kleine Stadt Luang Prabang im Herzen von Laos. Besonders der alte Ortskern um den Klosterberg herum hat sich spürbar einen Teil seines französischen Flairs aus der vergangenen Kolonialzeit bewahrt. Wunderschön und wertig, aber auch entsprechend preislich gehoben verströmen viele Geschäfte und Restaurants hier eine Quintessenz aus altfranzösischem Baustil und laotischer Alltagskultur.
From Vang Vieng my way goes north again. After a journey of 9 hours in a sleeping bus, up- and downhill at bumpy serpentines, I’m reaching the small town Luang Prabang in the heart of Laos. Especialy the old center around the monastery hill preserved a french flair of former colonial times. It’s very beautiful but high priced here and I can feel the quintessence of old french architecture and Lao daily culture in a lot of stores and restaurants.
Etwa eine halbe Stunde Fahrt südwärts am Mekong Fluss entlang erwarten mich zwei interessante Naturschauplätze. Der erste ist ein in Kooperation mit dem Khmur Stamm entstandener Schmetterlingspark, in dem jahreszeitenabhängig zwischen 10 und 30 verschiedene heimische Arten von Schmetterlingen leben. Als holländisch-laotisches Forschungszentrum initiiert und mit Hilfe von internationalen Volunteeren liebevoll gepflegt, kann ich in dieser friedvollen Oase der Ruhe das bunte Treiben der Zweiflügler bewundern und nach der staubig heissen Zeit in Vang Vieng die Haut meiner Füsse im Fisch-Spa regenieren lassen.
Around a half hour along the Mekong river in direction south there are two interesting natural venues. The first one is a butterfly park in ccoperation with the Khmur tribe. Depending of the season between 10 and 30 different native species of butterflies living here. It was initiated as a dutch-lao research center and many international volunteers collaborating at any time. In this peaceful oasis of silence I like it to watch the colorful movements of the butterflies and after the dusty time in Vang Vieng I can regenerate the skin of my feets at a fish-spa too.
Die zweite Naturattraktion ist ein faszinierendes, allerdings touristisch sehr stark besuchtes Gelände mit Wasserfällen. Türkisfarben fliesst das kostbare Nass mitten im Dschungel stufenförmig den Hang hinunter und lädt in terrassenartigen Sammelbecken zum Erfrischen ein. Gegen Ende des Tages flaut der Besucherstrom hier etwas ab und so nutze auch ich die Zeit bis zum Beginn des Sonnenuntergangs für ein kühlendes Bad vor traumhafter Kulisse.
The second natural attraction is a fascinating but very touristic area of falls. Midst the jungle beautiful turquoise water flows down the hillside in cascades and invites me for a refreshment in some kinds of melting pots. It’s a great experience to take a cooling bath in this dreamlike scenery at sunset.
