An meinem freien Wochenende besuche ich die 2h Bootsfahrt entfernte Insel Koh Mak. Aufgrund des flachen Strandwassers fährt man das letzte Stück mit kleinen Fischerbooten an Land. Schon bei meiner Ankunft merke ich wie sich auch in mir alles entschleunigt. Die Insel strahlt eine friedliche Ruhe aus, welche sich unmittelbar auf mich überträgt. Endlos weisse Strände, sich in lauem Windhauch wiegende Betelpalmen und kristallklares Wasser erschaffen hier in natura Bilder, wie ich sie bisher nur in Reisekatalogen oder Werbespots gesehen hatte.
At my free weekend I went to the neighbour island of Koh Mak. It’s 2h away by a local big boat and the last part was done by small fishermen boats, because of the flat water at the coast. Just as I arrived, I felt everything slowing down inside me. The island feels so peaceful and quiete and I like to get in resonance with it. Endless white beaches, moving betel palms in the lukewarm wind and crystal clear water around me are creating some awesome pictures which I have seen only at traveling brochures or in advertising clips before.
Aber Koh Mak geht im Tourismus ganz eigene und bewusste Wege. Der grösste Teil der Insel befindet sich in Familienbesitz mit kambodschanischen Wurzeln. Die wenigen Unterkünfte hier entwickeln sich überwiegend im Einklang mit dem Ökosystem. So hat beispielsweise das Seavanna Resort einen eigenen Bio-Garten, in welchem Zutaten für die Speisen im Restaurant wachsen. Und auch im infrastukturellem Ausbau setzt man auf Naturverbundenheit. Nur wenige Fahrzeuge sind auf der Insel unterwegs und durch die kurzen Distanzen sind viele Orte auch bequem zu Fuss erreichbar.
But Koh Mak goes an own and more mindful way in tourism. The largest part of the island is owned by one family with cambodian roots and they decided to developing tourism slowly and in harmony with the ecological system. The Seavanna resort for example has an organic garden and cultivates different ingredients for their restaurant. And the expansion of the infrastructure goes in a natural way too. Only a few vehicles are going around the island and because of the short distances it’s also easy to walk to a lot of locations.
In der heissen Jahreszeit sind kaum noch Gäste auf Koh Mak und so konnte ich mit etwas Verhandlung günstig in einem Bungalow direkt am Wasser übernachten. Ich empfand es als eine Art persönlichen Luxus, direkt nach dem Aufstehen und ohne andere Menschen um mich herum, im Meer zu schwimmen. Und ich habe hier mein bisher leckerstes Massaman Curry gegessen, in einem unscheinbaren kleinen Inselrestaurant. Insgesamt gesehen war Koh Mak für mich ein perfekter Ort für ein paar wirkliche Urlaubstage auf meiner Seelenheilungsreise.
There are not much guests at Koh Mak in the hot season. So I was able to find fair priced bungalow directly at the beach after some negotiation. It was a kind of personal luxury to swim in the sea immediately after waking up and without any other people around me. And at a small authentic restaurant I ate my most delicious Massaman curry so far. Considered in total Koh Mak was a perfect location for an intense short vacation at my soulhealing journey.
